Goodbye Kale, Hello Snow!

Yesterday we harvested the last of the kale from our garden. Although I’ve said “this is going to be our last harvest of kale” many times this fall, the frost finally was strong enough to get through the blankets. Bodhi and I picked a huge bowl of already frozen kale. We enjoyed a yummy tofu, kale, rice dish for dinner and stuck the rest in the freezer. Now, all we have left in the garden is cilantro in the cold frame…..and hopes that more things planted in the cold frame will make it.

A light dusting of snow yesterday prompted backyard snow play. We got all bundled up and Bodhi lasted about 10 minutes! That light snow yesterday was just a warm up for today…..a good amount of snow that has occupied Indigo most of the morning. He has cleaned the snow, brushed the snow, shovled the snow, hiked in his snow shoes, made paths with the soccer ball and is now trying to get the dog to ride on the sled. I am thankful that nature has provided such quality entertainment today!

Obama rhymes with Mama

Last night I was giving Indigo a haircut and to try to keep him occupied we were playing a rhyming game. One person says two words and the other person decides if they rhyme or not. We had been playing for a while and I said “Mama and bike”. Indigo says “No, they don’t rhyme. But, Mama and Obama rhyme.” They sure do! Since Obama is in our four year olds daily vocabulary, I hope it stays there for the next eight years.

Start them young!

Mama, give me a massage!

So, I spent 6 days of last week up in Estes Park. I was doing massage at the Yoga Journal Conference. It was a great gig, fun clients, beautiful location and I even got to catch some yoga classes. One of the days Lucas brought the kids up to hang out during my breaks. Bodhi headed straight for the massage table and got right into position. I’ll tell you, they sure pick things up fast. Maybe when he is saying mama he really means massage…………..hmmmm. No, I think he really is saying Obama. He’s a big fan, he says it like 50 times a day.

Day Out with Thomas!

We spent the day at the Railroad Museum in Golden with Thomas the Tank Engine. We got to ride “the real Thomas”, which was very fulfilling for a four year old. Even though Rachel missed our scheduled train ride, we enjoyed seeing all the other activities with her.

Since I told Indigo that Thomas was visiting Colorado, he said “Do you think we will see Thomas on the tracks near the University? Or maybe downtown? We must look lots for him.” Oh, what have I started….?

Tour de Fat Bike Parade

The Tour de Fat….what is that? 6,000 fun loving people dressed in costumes riding their bikes in a parade through Fort Collins. A few may be drunk (it’s sponsored by New Belgium Brewery, makers of Fat Tire), some in more than wild costumes, but everyone having a blast!

What to do while waiting for 6,000 people to start riding? Take a nap and eat cheese sticks!

Ready to ride with our capes!

Indigo loved it! He did lots of waving and got very excited at the costumes he recognized–Pooh, bumble bees, and even a chicken laying an egg. He did great riding his tag-along for most of the event. We were, as you can obviously tell, a family of robots. Our original idea of cardboard boxes covered in tin foil wasn’t very bike riding friendly, so we moved onto capes. Indigo still called us robots, so please don’t be confused.

Unchartered Territory

We are entering unchartered territory folks! Welcome to the Werner-Salsbury Family Blog. Why a blog you asK? Well, we are eager to share news, funny stories and adventures, and pictures with those we care about. Our family and friends are spread across the United States, and throughout the world, and we decided to join the 21st century and use this blog as a way to keep in touch.

Life is certainly full and exciting these days. Lucas enjoyed his summer vacation and is back to school. He moved to a new school this fall and is thrilled to be able to work for the local school district and teach 1st grade (his current favorite) at a school that focuses on arts and technology.

Pam is continuing to be busy with being a full-time mama to two amazing boys. She enjoyed having some extra help around the house this summer. Pam is also keeping busy with her own massage therapy practice and is excited as her clientele grows. She is also busy with serving as the VIce-President for Indigo’s preschool. She gets to make sure that everyone is doing what they are supposed to! So far, she’s doing a fantastic job!

Indigo, our oldest son, is now 4. He is a sweet, sensitive kid who loves dirt, trucks, bugs, and an occasionally dance around the house to “The Nutcracker”. It’s been great to see Indigo’s role as big brother. He watches out for Bodhi and is very sweet with him. Indigo is now in Pre-K and is very excited to be a “big kiddo”.

Bodhi is our little guy and he turned 1 this summer, believe it or not! He is the calmest, most chill kid in town. He is such a fun-loving, cheerful boy. He loves to explore and get dirty in the mud puddle that the boys make in the back yard with the hose. Everyday there is something new–words, signs, or bumps and bruises!

That’s the basic recap for you all. Many of you know these tidbits of information, but some of you have been a little more out of the loop, so we wanted to fill you in!
